Review | Eclipse – Megalomanium II
Frontiers Music S.R.L.
`Megalomanium II’, the new album of Eclipse continues to solidify the band’s status as a powerhouse in the melodic hard rock genre. Following their critically acclaimed predecessor, this album showcases their signature blend of massive hooks, stellar musicianship, and emotional depth. Only reviewed briefly as I believe we all know Eclipse for their dominance releasing melodic rock at its finest. Here’s to a party!
MUSICAL MARKSMANSHIP
`Megalomanium II’ is their 11th studio release and features a collection of tracks that highlight their evolution while staying true to their roots. The album opens with rocking grenade ,,Apocalypse Blues’’, setting a high standard with its catchy chorus and electrifying guitar solos. It all simply ignites at first play and nests immediately. The enormous hooks and effective melodies are keenly interlaced with the musical marksmanship of the band.
The standout track, ,,Falling to My Knees’’, exemplifies the band’s ability to craft anthemic melodies that resonate with listeners. It hammers into action with ponderous drums and melodic riff ‘n lick fireworks. Erik Mårtensson’s vocal delivery is spot on, with the song high on energy and tacky singalong sections. The wonder of Eclipse however is their ability to, even when it meanders into predictive and repetitive territory, give the songs a unique and memorable twist that resonates atop its cliché laden identity.
Refraining from the cliché however, the band always explores a wider range of music and scopes to implement it into their unique cocktail. Check out the great ,,Until the War Is Over”, featuring a western-inspired whistling intro. The track transitions into a driving groove that captures the essence of Scandinavian melodic hard rock. Its catchy refrain is both uplifting and memorable.
UNYIELDING POWERHOUSE
Classic signature hammers like ,,The Spark”, the mega-melodic and urging ,,Pieces”, and ,,All I Know” fire on all engines with heavy grooves and strong melodies, enforcing the band’s signature live presence. They rouse, they swing, they are explosive. ,,Divide & Conquer” stands out for its heavy guitar riffs and commanding vocals, making it an immediate highlight for live performances. You see fists flying up and air guitars swung into the arena atop the air drumming fans. It’s an unyielding powerhouse of a tune that exemplifies more dominant and rooted Eclipse’s hard-hitting style.
Toning back and blending acoustic instrumentation, ,,To Say Goodbye” is an exceptionally melodic tune riding high on melodic discharge and shifting pace and melodies. The vocal interaction is tremendous and the chorus drop dead wonderful. Not to forget the short guitar solo which is sheer bliss!
ECLIPSE – THE CONCLUSION
,,Dive Into You’’ is an emotional semi-ballad, breathtaking and beautifully constructed, showcasing Erik Mårtensson’s emotive vocals and Magnus Henriksson‘s impressive guitar work. The poignant lyrics are instantly landing due to Erik’s emotional delivery and the powerful solo discharges spot on gut wrecking drama, towering with melodic accolades. Discharging even deeper, ,,Still My Hero’’ is the deeply personal song dedicated to Mårtensson’s late father. It evokes strong emotions and nostalgia, blending 80s vibes with contemporary rock sensibilities while unloading passionate emotions and personal feelings lifting Erik’s vocal performance.
One can only agree `Megalomanium II’ is another triumph for Eclipse. The album is characterized by high-calibre production, engaging lyrics, and powerful performances. Reviewers have highlighted that every song on the album is impactful, with no apparent flaws. The consistency in quality reinforces Eclipse’s reputation as one of the best rock bands of our time.
Overall, `Megalomanium II’ not only meets but exceeds expectations continuing to showcase Eclipse’s commitment to musical excellence.
