Review | Eluveitie – Ànv
Nuclear Blast Records
With `Ànv’, Eluveitie once again proves their undisputed mastery in the folk metal world. This ninth studio album brings a fascinating blend of Celtic traditions and modern metal to life. With each track offering a unique experience that takes the listener on a musical journey through time and space. The album is not just a collection of songs. It is a work of art that intertwines history and innovation.
EMOTIONAL DEPTH AND POWERFUL MELODIES
The title track ,,Ànv’’ immediately sets the tone with its captivating melodies and emotional depth. Fabienne Erni‘s voice shines here like never before. Although the lyrics may be incomprehensible to many, the track still manages to touch the very core of your soul. The song radiates a lamenting and melancholic beauty that is hard to forget. Goosebumps all over!
,,The Harvest’’ delivers powerful energy with its dynamic riffs and the contrasts between Erni’s melodic vocals and Chrigel Glanzmann‘s raw vocal style. It is a song where the boundaries between folk and metal are extensively blurred. This mix makes it an unmistakable favorite. ,,The Prodigal Ones’’ is a catchy, accessible track bursting with energy that invites you to sing along without losing any strength or depth. A personal favorite that I’ve already played on repeat countless times.
A SPECIAL MOMENT ON THE ALBUM
The addition of violinist Lea-Sophie Fischer has enriched the band with a new instrumental layer, which is especially evident in the updated version of ,,Epona’’. While the original from the album `Evocation 2 – Pantheon’ was mostly acoustic. This new version has more bite and a fuller sound that perfectly fits the renewed vibe of ‘Ànv’. ,,The Prophecy’’ is another standout track. With its mystical, shamanistic atmosphere that adds a unique vibe to the album and captivates the listener entirely.
,,Venez Danser’’ creates a special moment on the album. Not only through the choice of the French language but also due to the unmistakable charm and diversity the track exudes. The use of male vocals in this song adds another dimension. Although it’s unclear who provides them, the result is undoubtedly impressive. The variation in language and style illustrates Eluveitie’s willingness to experiment and broaden their musical horizons.
ELUVEITIE – THE CONCLUSION
What truly sets this album apart is the balance between tradition and innovation. It combines the familiar with the refreshing, seamlessly merging melodic death metal, pop-inspired harmonies, and traditional folk. It’s an album that is both accessible to newcomers and offers a deeper appreciation for loyal fans.
With a refined production where every detail shines, `Ànv’ is a celebration of two decades of musical growth and a promising glimpse into the future of folk metal. The album reflects Eluveitie’s evolution and proves their ability to keep renewing their sound without losing their roots. Whether you are a seasoned fan or new to the genre, `Ànv’ is a masterpiece you cannot miss.
