Review | Sinner’s Blood – Dark Horizons
Frontiers Music srl
It has been exactly four years since the Chilean rockers of Sinner’s Blood launched their first album ‘The Mirror Star’. With an impressive singer called James Robledo (sounding as a cross between Dio, Sir Russell Allen and Jorn) and an inventive guitarist/composer and producer Nasson as their two main assets the group sounded quite good. For the Frontiers label a sign to aim their arrows on James Robledo who soon got involved in several other label-projects. He was also given the chance to make two solo-albums of which ‘Wanted Man’ was the best one. Also, Nasson went for a solo-effort.
OVERDUE
I would say that a second Sinner’s Blood album has been long overdue, as the debut was a very promising affair. Four years later Nasson and Robledo with the assistance of drummer Guillermo Pereira and bass player Nicholas Fischer have joined forces again for an album that clocks almost fifty minutes divided over eleven tracks. Produced by Nasson it is safe to say that Sinner’s Blood have come up trumps with an album that is full of energetic stuff, has a blasting sound and is extremely versatile when you hear what the boys bring to the table.
VARIETY GALORE
,,Bound’’ kicks of the album in style, it is an hard edged melodic rocker as in the first single ,,Enemy’’, a fast paced rocker with a big chorus. It is a very promising start to an album that can be seen as a release where variety is galore. It is not that the band specialises in hard and rocking tracks. There are some real cool ballads (,,The Voice Within’’) as well, while ,,The Man, The Burden And The Sea’’ is a mid-tempo track with lots of mood changes, giving the song a slight progressive and mystic character. Definitely one of the highlights of the record.
COMBINATION
The combination Nasson/Robledo is quite a unique one. Obviously Nasson knows exactly what kind of a versatile singer Robledo is. That allows him to dig deep into his own musical fantasy and come up with these compositions that fit the singer like a glove. Robledo seems to me to be a vocalist who can tackle any rock genre. It does not seem to cost him any effort whether he has to go full throttle of bring more feeling and melody into the fold. It comes naturally for this vocal power unit.
SINNER’S BLOOD – THE CONCLUSION
Although I have enjoyed the solo-efforts by Robledo and Nasson, with ‘Dark Horizons’ as prime example Nasson and Robledo seem to be at ease and are able to push each other limits to new heights. This album impresses from start to finish and is a must for rockers who like their hard and heavy rock brought with panache and thought. ‘The Mirror Star’ was a good start, ‘Dark Horizons’ is the next level!
